Johnson Bros Hardware was first opened in Rydalmere in 1955, by John and Bob Johnson. After a brief move to Freshwater, they opened their store in Avalon in 1957. In 1989, a second Store was opened at 3 Mona Vale Rd, Mona Vale. This Store went from strength to strength and moved to larger premises in 2003, at 51 Bassett St, Mona Vale.
In October 2008, Johnson Bros Mitre 10 took over operation of Hardwoods Australia. In January 2009 the name was changed to JBH Timbers and Building Supplies incorporating Hardwoods Australia. This name change reflected the increased product range that was now available. To achieve a "One Stop Shop", JBH Timber moved into the same complex as Johnson Bros Mitre 10 in Mona Vale.
With the growth of the JBH trade division, Johnson Bros Hardware opened JBH Fencing & Landscape Supplies in March of 2014. The new site in Narrabeen further increases the trade value offering of Johnson Bros. to support more than just building supplies.
In 2015, Johnson Bros took over Harper Timber. Harper Timber is spread across three warehouses at Pendle Hill and utilises a large amount of milling to produce specialty and custom timber products
The greatest move was still to come, in early 2017 Johnson Bros Mitre 10 Mona Vale moved for the 2nd time to a bigger site. The new site at 73 Basset St, Mona Vale brings JBH Timber and the Kitchen department under one roof with Johnson Bros Mitre 10. The site now boasts separate retail and Trade entrances, an undercover drive thru for heavy hardware, an outdoor green life department, an in-store Dulux Trade Store as well as 150+ Parking spots.
Whilst John and Bob are no longer involved in the running of the business, the day to day running is left to Johns sons and daughters. John has 5 sons, 3 daughters, 1 son-in-law and 3 daughters-in-law and a constantly growing number of grandchildren involved in the stores, making it a true Family business.
From the outset, Johnson Bros has prided themselves on offering excellent customer service, and this has carried through to the present. The Avalon store is in a handy position, offering customers basic hardware and household items to the people in the upper peninsula of Sydney's Northern Beaches. The Mona Vale store can, and does, service the Sydney Metropolitan area for all facets of the building industry, from foundation materials through to roofing as well as structural pine, both treated and untreated, structural hardwood - kiln dried and sawn unseasoned, engineered beams, western red cedar, finger jointed pine moldings, doors, plywood, furniture grade hardwood, Hardies Fibre Cement products, insulation, plywood and other sheet material. They also specialise in offering a great range and service for the DIY and home handyman.
